Matthew 7:15-7:20

Are You On the Right Path? - Part 2 "Fruit Inspection"

As we have studied the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter seven, we have probably been thinking how great it would be if people only lived this way, treating others the way they want to be treated. Yet even the best of us don't always do so. In this passage, we find a test we can apply so we might beware of that which is false or could potentially mislead us. This is part two of being fruit inspectors.

  1. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
  2. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
  3. Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
  4. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
  5. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
  6. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
